We welcome the European Defense and Foreign Ministers!

In the first half of 2006 Austria has the Presidency of the European Union for the second time. This means that Austrian politicians are taking the chair of a multitude of EU-bodies. The three informal summits of the 25 heads of the state and governments will take place in Vienna because - according to officials - of security aspects. Innsbruck and Salzburg will be the places where two of the 14 informal meetings of the Councils of Ministers will take place. The 25 Defense Ministers will meet in Innsbruck and the Foreign Ministers will meet in Salzburg. The framework for perfect exploitation

Since its existence, the European Union has provided leaders with a basis to subdue its so called "EU-citizens" under capitalist market logic. This logic has now reached an absurd level:

Flexibility, outsourcing and reorganization characterize the current situation. Inhuman labor conditions, salaries under the existence minimum, unpaid overtime, precarious working conditions, and surveillance of our life and inhuman reduction of social security massively constrict our already standardized lives.

But this comes as no surprise: Global capitalism always needs new basic conditions to survive. The European Union as a political structure of authority is only a consistent continuation of the capitalist process of utilization. Human beings who are not able or do not want to conform to the normal archetypes of the so-called "European Community of Values" will be isolated, sanctioned, deported or massively threatened in their personal freedom. The spectrum goes from the abolition of several rights and modern comforts to the existential menace of every single person.

So the circle of capitalist utilization continues: More production, more enforcement of work, more surveillance and above all, more fear! Despite highly developed surveillance and savage actions of discipline we have seen that the "danger" of social rebellion and uprising has always existed. Of course the elites are completely aware of this "problem". Nothing frightens them more than uncontrolled, unpredictable, dynamic and self-organized movements. Therefore they have to take advantage of instruments that can silence the people once more: The increasing militarization, the mental and material preparation for wars, the increasing surveillance of all parts of our life and the accompanying repression of all people who are willing to take a stand against this disrespect of human life.

Militarization and surveillance

The second pillar of the European Union is set out in the Treaty of Maastricht: The Common Foreign and Security Policy. Since 9/11 "International Terrorism" provides an unquestionable pretext for inner surveillance and unlimited armament. But not only the European Union, national governments, the weapons' lobby and the arms industry perpetuate the feeling of durable insecurity. Also the media and scientists who stand for the elites lend important authority to their plans.

Racism

We can see an increasing "European" racism which has its roots in a nearly perfected compartmentalization. The need of human beings to live without persecution and existential destitution is being cut by a politics of immigration that conforms to the needs of the European capital. A twisted contradiction can be seen: On the borders of the European Union which presents itself officially as a "force of protection" of human rights thousands of people die annually! Refugees who could escape existential threats and destitution in their home countries are "stored" in incredibly inhuman asylum camps. Non-acceptance of political persecution in the refugees' home countries and deportation of traumatized persons because of the lack of investigation of asylum, etc. - all these things happen every day and are supported by law! Furthermore, the Fortress Europe is not afraid of its expansion: In 2003 in Thessalonica (Greece) the 390 billion Euro budget for "defending" the borders was set. The illegalization of humanity has reached a level previously unheard of!

Action!

We, as people claiming anti-capitalist and antifascist ideals, do not simply want to watch these things happening! We consider ourselves to be part of a worldwide anti-capitalist and antifascist movement, which has to unite in its diversity. Only if we work together, in a world in which exploitation increasingly manifests itself, can we tip the balance towards a new, better, more just society.

In the name of a progressive, worldwide movement let's welcome the European Defense and Foreign Ministers. Let's show them that they and their inhuman manipulation are absolutely not desired! Not in Innsbruck, not in Salzburg and not in any place on our earth! For a world without war, capitalist utilization, (social) exclusion and religious bigotry we call on everybody to protest against these EU-summits in Innsbruck and Salzburg!
